FAQs

1. Where do you get your money from for grants?

We were established by the Battersea Power Station Development Company and receive regular payments from them to support communities in the two boroughs located nearest to the development site.

2. What type of organisations do you fund?

We’ll fund constituted groups that have a charitable purpose, such as registered charities, CICs, CIOs, non-profits, voluntary or community groups, social enterprises and resident associations. Non-registered charities will need to provide a written constitution and have a management committee of at least three unrelated, unpaid people.

3. Will you accept an application from an organisation that doesn’t have a constitution, a set of accounts set of accounts or a track record?

You don’t need a set of accounts or a track record to apply, but you must have a written constitution. If you don’t have a bank account you should be able to show us you’re applying for one and will have one by the time your grant is awarded, if your application is successful.

4. Is there a minimum or maximum annual income level the organisation needs to have?

No, but we give priority to smaller organisations with income less than £500,000

5. Does the organisation need to be based in the local area?

We’ll give priority to organisations based in Lambeth and Wandsworth but may occasionally fund work that takes place across London if it helps us achieve our goals and also benefits our local residents.

6. Why do you only fund work in Lambeth and Wandsworth?

The Battersea Power Station development straddles the boroughs of Lambeth and Wandsworth. We want to make sure the neighbourhoods around Battersea are able to contribute to and fully benefit from a thriving area.

7. What do you mean by ‘community’?

When we talk about ‘community’ we mean a group of people joined together by common factors, such as their culture, values and interests, where they live, and what they engage with.

8. What kind of work do you fund?

We’ll contribute to the revenue costs of an organisation such as a community garden, community market, cinema club, community football group, an arts programme, citizen science projects, reading groups, leadership training, salary costs and pilot projects.

9. Does my application need to meet all the The Spring Fund’s criteria to be awarded a grant?

No, you’ll need to comply with some but not necessarily all of the funding requirements.

10. How much can I apply for?

The Spring Fund has a maximum grant size of £5,000 over one year. We’ll match-fund money raised from other sources, and we’ll also consider applications where we contribute to the project as one of a group of funders.

11. What is the maximum amount of time I can get my project funded for?

Grants from The Spring Fund will support projects for up to one year.

12. Do you have funding deadlines?

There are no deadlines – we assess applications on a rolling basis so you can apply at any time.

13. How often can I apply?

You can only apply once during the year.

14. How long do I need to wait for a decision?

We aim to acknowledge your application by email within a week of receiving it, and let you know our decision within three months.

15. How do I report back once the grant has been spent?

You’ll receive an email a month before your grant finishes with a few questions asking what went well, what could have gone better and why.

16. If I’ve received a grant, when can I re-apply?

You’ll need to wait one year from when you received your grant before applying for another, and you’ll also need to make sure you’ve sent in a Final Report at the end of the first project before re-applying.

17. Are there any kinds of work that you don’t support?

Yes – there are some exclusions. Please see What we don’t fund for more details.

18. Do you fund research projects?

We may support research when it has a strong match with our criteria and delivers a practical outcome, but we don’t fund medical research.

19. Do you fund individuals?

No, we don’t fund individuals.

20. If my application is unsuccessful, when can I reapply?

You’ll need to wait one year from the date your first application was declined before you can re-apply.
